Durbuy Experience

Day 1

8:30 – After a 2-hour drive, my wife and I arrived late yesterday evening. But this morning we woke up early. Our bedroom is located in a wooded and flowery garden and the birds are singing loudly. Breakfast is being prepared with local food by the owner of the guesthouse. This awakens my taste buds. I go down quietly. To start the day: regionalwhole-grain bread (www.lejourdupain.be), homemade marmalade (www.confitureriesaintamour.be), and yogurt from the farm next door. We are ready for the activities to come!

9:30 – The B&B owner has some mountain bikes. And as he loves it he suggests we go with him and explore the famous Ardennes forest. This trail covers almost half of the region. Its beauty is exceptional, but we are very far from our flat country: within 3 hours biking we climbed 1200 metres…

12:30 – Back to our room to freshen up. It is time to thank our kind hosts. We leave the B&B for a special encounter with goats! We have to be there by 1:00.  A rural meal is waiting for us at the goat farm (www.chevreriedozo.be). We eat the tasty cheese close to the “ladies”. Sincerely, it is a delight. We are so happy to rest a bit in such an environment

14:00 – The following step of our program is situated in an absolutely amazing  recreational area! Everything is designed to have fun “into the wild” (www.durbuyadventure.be). We chose an itinerary in the treetops and so we also tried speleology and via ferrata. The ambience is cool and sometimes we look forward to the comfort of our hotel room… as a well-deserved reward!

17:30 – Back to the hotel. We have a comfortable room but we immediately go to the spa and wellness centre. My wife’s eyes are sparkling. ;-) Here we are in this medieval city and the tranquillity suits us so well! Bubbles drive us lovers…

19:30 – We wander a bit in the old paved and narrow streets. It seems  History was telling us something. Now we are starving. Our choice for dinner is one of the restaurants that works with local producers (www.literroir.be). The location is so lovely. What a lovely gastronomic event to end the day! On our way back to the hotel, we cross a little rhum pub with nice island music… We’re completely relaxed!

Day 2

9:00 – We feel lazy this morning in our comfortable hotel bed. Today we have an appointment with the archaeological museum, which opens at 10:00 (www.weris-info.be). Since my wife studied archaeology, this museum is a must. We asked for a guide because we don’t want to get lost in the forest and we like a personalised commentary. Days later I am still remembering the “Lit du Diable” and the “Pierre Haina”!

11:30 – We have an appointment at the Tourist Information Centre for a walk in the old city. A real feast for the taste buds. All this history is amazing for such a small city! We end the visit with a little visit to the Topiary Park.

13:00 – The visit to the Marckloff micro brewery (http://lafermeauchene.be) stimulates out appetites and we decide to go for a picnic near the Ourthe river. Our frugal meal gives us renewed energy. Before returning home we’ll do separate activities this time: golf for my wife (http://durbuy.bluegreen.com)  with her friend who joined us just for the afternoon and a hide-and-seek game for me with my godson in the famous cornfield labyrinth (www.lelabyrinthe.be).So amazing!

These two days are just examples, which can vary according to the season. This is not contractual. For more information, visit www.durbuy.be.
