Nestled in the heart of Walloon Brabant, a few kilometres south of Brussels, Ottignies‐Louvain‐la‐Neuve, has two urban centers for one city.
On one hand, Ottignies is surrounded by a few old villages spread around the countryside that are rich in history. On the other hand the new university town of Louvain-la-Neuve blends harmoniously within its green surroundings. They are an invitation to discover the walks through the woods and green trails.
This town was created in the seventies similar to a medieval Italian city. From day one, Louvain‐la‐Neuve was designed and built with the idea of making the city accessible to all, taking into account the needs of all visitors, whatever their age or level of mobility. The town center is car-free and can be reached by train, car, bus, bicycle and on foot. It is bubbling with life, offering country charm with all the urban advantages of a modern city and an unparalleled friendliness and atmosphere. And that’s on top of all the events that fill the city’s streets and squares ! These include festivals, folk holidays, a 24‐hour student bicycle race and the Christmas market.
Louvain-la-Neuve abounds with interesting touristic and cultural places such as the Hergé Museum and « Musée L » (Universitary Museum), artworks on every street corner, theatres, parks to stroll in, a wood of 220 hectares with a natural reserve and numerous pathways, lots of restaurants and cafés… A town perpetually changing in which ongoing urban projects await discovery.
